Tearproof Paper:
Enhanced Papers for Longevity in High Stress Environments and Demanding Application Situations

Tearproof Paper for inkjet, laser, color laser, and copier applications

A good tearproof paper is more resilient than standard fiber-based paper due to a much stronger, and usually artificial, composition.  This enters the realm of what can generally be described as an enhanced paper, categorized as a
synthetic paper, a hybrid, or a chemically-coated paper.

Certain applications are more appropriate for this type of product.  These are for documents for use in environments which do not exceed the practical expectations of a "tearproof paper".

No paper is absolutely tearproof at the current state of enhanced paper technology, but the options currently available are sufficient to be truly practical and useful in real-world situations.

The types of documents where you can expect good results for a tearproof paper include high-use, frequently-handled documents, frequently traveled and exchanged documents, reference cards and documents, id cards, and outdoor documents.

Product Breakdown:  The below comparison includes Ruff N Tuff (inkjet/laser) and Power Paper (inkjet/laser/copier).

Ruff N Tuff is a chemically-coated hybrid, a combination of two of the above mentioned categories of enhanced paper types.  This is a three-layered paper, which relies on an inner, plastic layer to reach its maximum tearproof paper potential.  For practical purposes, this is easily described as a tearproof paper.  Ruff N Tuff is the best, first option for applications requiring excellent tear resistance.  Additional properties include grease and water resistance, provided by the chemical coating applied to each side of the sheets.

See specifications on the inkjet or laser/copier product pages.

The rip test for Ruff N Tuff:  the only way to rip this paper with ease is by the introduction of a small cut from a blade to allow a rip to occur at that point.  Ruff N Tuff is superbly resilient to tearing during attempts to rip a sheet by hand alone, even while under extreme duress.

Ruff N Tuff points summary:

   · An excellent "tearproof paper" for practical consideration.

· Strong tear resistance along horizontal and vertical directions of a sheet

· Other enhanced qualities:  water-resistant; grease-resistant.

· Paper-realistic look, feel, and performance (including folding
     applications).

Power Paper employs an advanced synthetic composition providing waterproof qualities.  It is a tear resistant paper with the advantage of being waterproof.  This product is far more resilient to water than Ruff N Tuff.

But unlike Ruff N Tuff, Power Paper has a less tear-resistant side.  The left and right edges of an 8.5 x 11 sheet possess less tear resistance against attempted rips than an attempt from the top and bottom.  Rips are more easily introduced when going with the grain of the sheet.

The rip test for Power Paper:  Under extreme stress tests, Power Paper will stretch out of shape, before finally ripping.  Stretching is noticeable under full force rip attempts.

Power Paper points summary:

    · A good "tearproof paper", as a second choice to Ruff N Tuff.

· Strong tear resistance, but not of equal strength along both
       directions of a sheet.

· Other enhanced qualities:  waterproof paper; superior for laminating
       applications such as id cards.

For details, refer to the appropriate version for your printer, inkjet or laser/copier Power Paper.
